Handling: Amphibians are best kept as a display species due to their sensitive absorbent skin, and any handling is recommended to take place using gloves.
Suitability: Well-researched beginner
Average Lifespan: 10 years
Natural habitat: Coastal plains of North America
Enclosure recommendations
This species do great in bioactive enclosures with plenty of hides, cork rounds and logs, as well as a large shallow easily-accessible water area that should be refreshed daily.
They enjoy a deep soil-based substrate layer to allow them to burrow. Heating should be thermostatically controlled, and a digital thermo-hygrometer should be used to measure temperature and humidity accurately.
