Average Lifespan: 10 - 20 years
Diet: Mainly a variety of insects
Handling: Can be nervous and shy, but will calm down with frequent positive interactions
Suitability: Keepers with some experience
Enclosure recommendations
Timor Monitors use every bit of space they are provided with and are semi-arboreal. Adults should be housed in enclosures measuring at least 4×2×4ft (LxDxH), with a substrate depth of 12+ inches in addition to plenty of climbing branches, vines, raised platforms, cork flats/rounds etc, as they love to both burrow and climb.
Babies can be housed in smaller versions of this, however they do grow fairly quickly so plans should be in place for their adult enclosure from the get go.
They should be provided with thermostatically controlled overhead heating and UV lighting. They have higher humidity requirements of 70-85%, which should be maintained with regular misting of the enclosure.
