Handling: Best kept as a display pet, but can be infrequently handled
Suitability: Well-researched Beginner
Lifespan: 3 to 6 years
Diet: Omnivorous (insects, vegetation, pellets, dried shrimp/ fish)
Natural Habitat: Found alongside streams in tropical forests, with a large geographical distribution
Enclosure recommendations
The minimum size enclosure for a group of up to 3 crabs is a 60cm long glass terrarium. They require 90% land and 10% shallow freshwater to replicate a stream cutting through a forest.
Deep substrate should be provided, with cork pieces, plants, branches and rocks for plenty of hiding areas.
Thermostatically controlled heating should be used to create an air temp of 22-26c. A 12hr light cycle should be provided using LED or UV lighting.
The water area should be filtered or changed daily. They should be provided with a piece of cuttlefish bone for calcium supplementation.
