Handling: Tolerate handling, but do well as a display species too
Suitability: Keepers with some experience who can provide the appropriate enclosure
Natural Habitat: Found basking on branches and rocks near creeks, rivers and lakes
Australian Water Dragons do best in large, tall enclosures with a minimum enclosure size requirement of 4×2×4ft (LxDxH).
A filtered or regularly changed water area should take up a large part of the floor-space, with plenty of branches, cork, platforms, vines and plants added to provide multiple climbing opportunities as they spend a lot of their time resting high on branches above the water.
They should be provided with T5 UV lighting and thermostatically controlled overhead heating. A digital thermometer and hygrometer should be in place to measure humidity and temperature within the enclosure accurately.
The correct supplement schedule is particularly imperative for this species.
