For sale in our Bracknell reptile shop
Age: CB22 (3 years old) Adult
Sex: Male
Handling: Best kept as a display species, but can be very fun to feed!
Suitability: Well-researched, advanced keepers
Natural Habitat: Cloud and montane forests of Eastern Mexico, high elevation
Enclosure Recommendations
Abronia are best kept in tall, full-screen enclosures due to their high ventilation requirements and their arboreal (tree-dwelling) lifestyle.
They require a cool and humid environment, which makes having the correct environmental control equipment in place absolutely essential (digital thermometers, hygrometers, misting system etc). A ProT5 UV lighting kit should be provided, and any heating offered must be thermostatically controlled and strictly monitored.
They should be provided with plenty of branches, vines and cork rounds/ flats to allow them to use their prehensile tail to climb high up in their enclosure. They love resting around Epiphyte plants that grow on branches rather than the ground, such as live Bromeliads, air plants, Spanish Moss and some Orchid species. They will particularly use Bromeliads as a microhabitat and to drink from.
A substrate of sphagnum moss will aid in the maintenance of their required high humidity levels as long as it is regularly spot cleaned to avoid mould growth.
