  • Pictures taken January 2026

  • For sale in our Bracknell reptile shop

  • Age: CB25 Juvenile

  • Sex: Female

  • Average Adult Size: Up to 2ft long

  • Handling: Tolerate handling once used to their new owner

  • Suitability: Well-researched beginner

  • Natural habitat: Dry woodland and grassland of the Gran Chaco region of South America

  • Tricolour Hognose snakes are mildly rear-fanged venomous as a hunting adaptation. If a person is bitten, this can act similarly to a bee sting, with some people being more prone to a reaction than others. That being said, this species do not tend to bite unless provoked and feeling threatened, and are more likely to give a warning heat butt.

Enclosure Requirements

  • Adults require 2-3ft long enclosures (depending on the individual’s size)

  • Babies and juveniles should be housed in smaller enclosures such as a hatchling snake kit until this is outgrown

  • Guarded overhead heating or a heat mat connected to a thermostat

  • Digital thermometer or heat gun and a digital hygrometer

  • 2.5 - 7% T5 UV lighting is highly recommended

  • Multiple hides and a substrate that allows for burrowing - they enjoy loose soil and leaf litter

  • Complete enclosure kits available
