Red Foot Tortoises are a tropical species that do not hibernate, meaning they require indoor housing under heat and UV lighting all year round. The correct calcium and vitamin supplement schedule is essential.
Adults require an enclosure or heated outdoor shed that is at least 8×4ft. Babies can be housed in 4×2ft enclosures until outgrown. They have higher humidity requirements compared to most other tortoise species, so we recommend that their enclosure is well sealed to protect from moisture damage.
This species require UV lighting during the day and thermostatically controlled heating that is maintained 24/7 as they do not tolerate large temperature drops at night. A digital thermo-hygrometer should be used to accurately measure temperature and humidity.
