1x imperfect - missing tip of tail
Sex: Unsexed
Age: Hatched 2025, Babies
Fully grown at 4 years old on average
Priced individually
Average Adult Size: 3ft (Females) to 4.5ft (Males)
Handling: Can be nervous and quick when babies, but tame down well with positive interactions and patience
Diet: Omnivorous (Insects, worms, whole prey, vegetation, fruit)
Suitability: Keepers with the space and knowledge for a large lizard species
Adult Tegus require a well-sealed enclosure measuring at least 8×4×4ft, with clustered and thermostatically controlled overhead heating and high-range UV lighting. Temperatures and humidity should be measured using a digital thermo-hygrometer.
They appreciate a deep soil-based substrate layer with lots of hides and enrichment to enable them to display their naturalistic behaviours, such as their love for digging. They have higher humidity requirements that should be maintained with a moisture retaining substrate, misting and a large water bowl.
